Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to function in the inpatient Complex Care Service (CCS) at Boston Children’s Hospital. CCS is a long-standing and nationally-regarded inpatient service in Pediatric Hospital Medicine within the Division of General Pediatrics that serves hospitalized children with medical complexity, who have complex chronic conditions and functional limitations. Common reasons for admission to CCS include infections (aspiration pneumonia, pyelonephritis), chronic condition exacerbations (epilepsy, digestive dysmotility), and post-operative recovery following surgery (baclofen pump placement, gastrostomy, spinal fusion, etc). This role will provide patient evaluation, assessment and facilitate care for the patients on the CCS service and will implement interventions tailored to improve systems for patient care and enhance patient safety in regards to this patient population. The CCS NP/PA will work collaboratively with supervising physicians, pediatric trainees (residents and fellows), and the entire nursing team to promote optimal clinical care. This NP/PA will act as a clinical resource, facilitating staff educational opportunities. Setting is a fast paced, collaborative environment with many opportunities for learning. Requirements include completion of a master’s degree program in Nursing or Physician Assistant. Clinical experience with children with medical complexity is preferred.
This Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant will be responsible for: - Evaluating, assessing and facilitating care for the medical and surgical patients with medical complexity admitted to the Complex Care Service.
- Help implement interventions tailored to improve systems for patient care and enhance patient safety in our patient population.
- Work collaboratively with supervising physicians and the entire nursing and medical team to promote optimal clinical care.
- Act as a clinical resource and help facilitate staff educational opportunities.
- Integrate with learning, quality improvement, and/or research initiatives
- 36 hour/week position, 50% day/night, and every 4th weekend rotation; 12 hour shifts.
- 6 month temporary coverage
To qualify, you must have: - A minimum of 2+ years inpatient pediatric experience with preference for those with experience in caring for higher acuity or higher complexity patients and those with 5+ inpatient pediatric nursing or PA experience
- 1+ year of pediatric NP/PA experience preferred
- Prior work with children with medical complexity as NP or PA is preferred
- Will consider new graduate nurse practitioner with recent 2+ years of pediatric inpatient RN experience at Boston Children's Hospital.
- A Master of Science in Nursing or Master of Science in Physician Assistant, either with MA Licensure.
