Job Duties/Responsibilities:
Responsibilities are interchangeable within job titles of medical laboratory scientist (MLS), medical technologist or clinical laboratory scientist. Work environment/department will be listed in requirement. Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria. Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures. Monitor, operate and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality. Demonstrate the ability to make technical decisions regarding testing and problem solving. Prepare, test, and evaluate new reagents or controls. Report accurate and timely test results to deliver quality patient care. Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures. Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary. Assist with processing of specimens when needed. Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology or meet local regulatory (CLIA & State) requirements. Minimum 2-4 years of clinical laboratory testing experience is required
IN ORDER FOR CANDIDATES TO QUALIFY THEY MUST MEET THE CLIA STANDARDSFOR TESTING PERSONNEL: [Candidates must possess at least 1 of the below]-Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology or Clinical Laboratory ScienceOR-BS in Chemical, Physical, or Biological Science from an accredited college or university WITHat least 1 year of training or experience in specialty inwhich testing will be performed. Such training must be equivalent to that received in a school of Medical Technology.OR90 Semester hours from an accredited institution that include the following: 16 semesterhours of Biology courses, 16 Semester ours of chemistry [must include atleast 6 hours ofinorganic Chemistry], and 3 Semester hours of Math- along with having completed anaccredited Clinical Laboratory training program or 1 year of documented Clinical LaboratoryTraining, or experience in the specialty that testing is to be performed.OR-Associates Degree in Medical Technology.
