The Kansas Health Institute (KHI) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan educational organization based in Topeka, Kansas, established in 1995 with a multi-year grant from the Kansas Health Foundation. As a growing organization, KHI’s mission is to improve the health of all Kansans through nonpartisan research, education and engagement.
Position Summary
We are seeking to hire an Analyst with expertise in providing technical assistance. KHI has an exciting portfolio of work in technical assistance, focused on providing education and training related to research and public health, and facilitating community stakeholders, task forces and groups across the state. Examples include the Ad Astra ECHO Hub, BCBSKS Pathways to a Healthy Kansas Initiative, Hunger Free Kansas initiative, community data walks and the Health in All Policies Technical Assistance Hub. The Analyst will provide technical assistance and contribute to KHI’s other research and policy projects.
Required Knowledge: The ideal candidate will have knowledge in public health, social determinants of health, and an understanding of how policy and system changes can improve community health. Familiarity with Health in All Policies and equity frameworks is strongly desired.
Required Skills:
- Project management skills, such as developing timelines and meeting agendas and effectively managing priorities, are essential for keeping technical assistance initiatives on track.
- Active listening and the ability to identify potential challenges in delivering technical assistance and adapting strategies to address them are also crucial.
- Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, along with an understanding of diverse populations and their unique challenges—particularly in the context of public health and health equity—is critical for designing and delivering effective technical assistance.
- Familiarity with virtual collaboration tools (e.g., Zoom, Teams) is essential.
Technical Assistance Experience:
- Proficiency in identifying the needs of groups interested in technical assistance. These groups of stakeholders may range from community coalitions to agencies.
- Proficiency in designing focus group and in-depth interview questionnaires tailored to various topics.
- Proficiency in recommending approaches to analyze qualitative data, as well as conducting quantitative data analysis.
- Experience building trust and rapport with a wide variety of stakeholders.
- Experience delivering technical assistance in person and virtually, which may include one-on-one consultations, presentations, written communication, training, resource development and other formats.
- Experience embedding equity into TA design and delivering inclusive, culturally responsive technical assistance to diverse populations.
- Experience using virtual tools such as polling, whiteboards and various technical assistance tools (e.g., SWOT analysis).
- Experience using Kansas-specific secondary data sources to generate detailed descriptive statistics.
Writing and Presentation Experience:
- Ability to create clear and impactful written materials, including presentation slides.
- Ability to deliver engaging presentations that effectively communicate complex information using plain language.
Qualifications:
- Applicants must have a master’s degree in health policy, public policy, public health, psychology, sociology, economics or a related field, or a bachelor’s degree and at least three years of relevant experience.
KHI’s Work Environment: We are a collaborative team, and our work is performed in a hybrid environment (a combination of office and remote). KHI staff members are required to work at our Topeka headquarters on Mondays and Wednesdays. This position requires travel within the state (an estimated 1-2 days quarterly) to engage with stakeholders onsite.
