Position Summary
Are you an experienced youth development or education professional with a passion for increasing economic opportunity for all? Urban Alliance (UA), a national youth workforce development nonprofit, is seeking a Program Coordinator for the Detroit region to support a cohort of 60 11th grade students through a structured workforce development curriculum, manage external partners, and facilitate professional development workshops. This position reports to the Senior Director of Programs and Partnerships.
About Urban Alliance
Urban Alliance provides economically disadvantaged young people with the exposure, opportunity, support, and training needed to prepare them for lifelong economic self-sufficiency. Urban Alliance’s core program matches underserved high school seniors with paid, professional internships, job skills training, one-on-one mentoring, and ongoing post-program support to expand their idea of what is possible for their future. Founded in Washington, D.C. in 1996, Urban Alliance has since expanded to Baltimore, Chicago, Northern Virginia and Detroit. To date, Urban Alliance has placed over 4,000 students in paid internships and served more than 18,000 through job skills training.
Community Engagement:
- Organize and facilitate community events, workshops, and information sessions to raise awareness of the organization's programs and recruit potential interns.
- Act as a liaison between the Urban Alliance and the community, fostering open lines of communication, and addressing any community concerns or inquiries.
Program Participant Recruitment:
- Work with the SDPP and PM to establish and nurture relationships with high schools to build a strong intern pipeline that aligns with our recruitment criteria.
- Collaborate with the College and Career Services Manager to collect alumni success stories and incorporate them into marketing collateral to generate excitement among our target audience.
- Engage alumni to attend information sessions and connect with potential interns, fostering a sense of community and facilitating meaningful connections.
Program Management:
- Oversee the successful implementation of one workforce development programs per semester (totaling two per year), serving approximately 60+ 11th grade students.
- Facilitate weekly workshops in group settings at various locations, ensuring the delivery of the program curriculum in a supportive and engaging manner.
- Provide ongoing support to students addressing program-related issues, monitoring participant compliance with program standards, identifying student needs, and offering necessary assistance.
- Offer feedback on program deliverables, advise on curriculum updates,
Data Management:
- Utilize Salesforce or other relevant platforms to accurately track and document referral sources, relationship-building activities, and applicant data.
- Analyze data to identify opportunities for improvement and enhance service delivery, as well as generate reports and insights for program evaluation and stakeholder reporting.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree and/or at least two years prior experience in youth development, curriculum development, or facilitation
- Is passionate about our mission and the possibilities of what you can accomplish
- Experience working with community organizations and schools in under-resourced areas
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Can work successfully in both independent and team settings
- Ability to meet tight deadlines
- Proficiency in MS Office suite
- Ability to commit to at least two consecutive years of employment with Urban Alliance
- Ability to commute throughout the city of Detroit.
