The Sr Field Engineer is a member of the project operations team. The primary function of the Field Engineer is supporting project staff, Superintendents and Foreman to ensure assigned craft-work is planned, efficient, understood and well documented. A successful Field Engineer will need to interface between craft supervision, owners, vendors, subcontractors and members of the project team.
Essential Functions
- Participate in the Estimate Turnover Meeting. Perform quantity takeoff.
- Assist in converting the estimate to a control budget. Assist in set up of job files.
- Coordinate ad review submittals.
- Assist engineering staff in procuring material suppliers and subcontractors.
- Attend and participate in daily and weekly safety meetings.
- Manage quantities and perform quantity takeoffs as required.
- Procure / schedule subcontractors and materials.
- Manage subcontractors and suppliers with support of staff, superintendents, and foremen.
- Assist in work plan development with project engineer, superintendents, and foremen. Monitor work plans.
- Manages quantity and cost reporting as accurately as possible, reports results to superintendents and foremen.
- Assists as necessary in change orders pricing.
- Participates in project document control process.
- Maintains accurate record set of project drawings and specifications.
- Participates in the project close out process.
- Final quantities of cost reports and final quantities and payment from owner.
- As built drawings.
- Turnover of required documents to owner.
- Miscellaneous / Other duties as required
Required Skills & Experience
- 2-3 years’ recent heavy highway, road and bridge construction experience (prefer a prior internship with a heavy civil contractor)
- Medium to Large project experience ($10M+) is required
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or similar discipline is preferred
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
- Work independently as well as part of a team
