About The Role
As our in-house Intellectual Property (IP) Attorney, you will play a crucial role in safeguarding our company's intellectual assets. You will be responsible for ensuring our innovations are protected, advising on all IP-related matters, and potentially consulting on broader legal issues.
What You'll Do
- Develop and implement company-wide IP strategies, including patent, trademark, copyright, and trade secret matters, while managing our IP portfolio.
- Review and negotiate IP-related agreements, such as licenses, confidentiality agreements, and joint development agreements.
- Conduct regular IP training and harvest sessions with employees, and draft patent and trademark applications.
- Monitor and enforce our IP rights, including leading litigation or dispute resolution activities related to intellectual property.
- Provide legal opinions, conduct freedom to operate searches, and advise on any IP matters, ensuring compliance and competitiveness.
Required Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- Active membership and good standing in the Tennessee Bar Association.
- A minimum of 8 - 12 years of experience in intellectual property law, with a strong preference for candidates who have a blend of law firm and in-house experience.
- Comprehensive knowledge of both U.S. and international intellectual property laws, conventions, and practices, with a proven track record in patent prosecution, IP litigation, and IP rights enforcement.
- Familiarity with the aerospace industry's unique intellectual property challenges and a keen understanding of the technical aspects relevant to Whisper Aero's field.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement effective IP strategies that align with the company's business goals and innovation trajectory.
- Exceptional communication abilities, both written and verbal, with a strong aptitude for negotiating complex IP-related agreements and effectively managing sensitive legal matters.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to provide clear legal advice and solutions to complex IP issues in a fast-paced and evolving industry.
Bonus Qualifications
- A technical background or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
- Experience in trademark portfolio management.
- Experience in negotiating licensing agreements.
- Proven record in successfully resolving IP disputes.
- Experience working with startups and managing external counsel.
