The American Chemistry Council (ACC) , a national trade association representing the world’s leading chemical and plastics manufacturers, currently has an opportunity for General Counsel & Corporate Secretary . ACC represents its members on public policy issues; coordinates the industry’s research and testing programs; and administers Responsible Care, the industry’s environment, health, safety and security performance improvement initiative.
The position is responsible for protecting ACC’s legal interests and operations, in compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws. The position is also responsible for overseeing ACC’s Legal Services staff. The position serves as the chief legal officer for ACC and the Board of Directors, including managing and overseeing Executive Committee and Board operations. The position reports directly to the President and Chief Executive Officer.
Required qualifications include a minimum of 12 years’ experience as an attorney with 8 years’ advocacy or related experience as well as a Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school. Demonstrated knowledge of the chemical or related industry, strong written and oral communications skills, litigation and administrative law expertise, as well as the ability to give internal and public presentations, cultivate and manage high quality stakeholder relationships, and experience working with government and policy officials and as a senior-level leader with demonstrated skills in leading, coaching and mentoring staff are a must. Federal government or related experience, base level knowledge of Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) laws, trade association experience and board and Board governance experience are preferred.
