Position Overview
As a caregiver who has a background in dementia and complex cases, you play a critical role in providing compassionate care to individuals facing cognitive challenges. Your experience extends beyond basic caregiving as you care for clients who have dementia, Alzheimer's and other related conditions.

Here are the key responsibilities and qualifications for this role:
Responsibilities:
- Dementia Care
- Follow personalized care plans for individuals with dementia.
- Provide emotional support and reassurance to patients.
- Monitor medication compliance, ensuring adherence to prescribed schedules.
- Understand and respond to the unique needs and behaviors associated with dementia.
- Complex Cases
- Work with patients who have complex health conditions.
- Collaborate with the care manager to deliver effective care.
- Observe your client and report any changes in their health conditions.
- Personal Care Assistance
- Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, grooming, and dressing.
- Help with mobility and fall prevention.
- Ensure a safe and comfortable environment for patients.
- Companionship and Mental Stimulation
- Engage patients in mentally stimulating activities (e.g., puzzles, reminiscing).
- Provide companionship to reduce feelings of isolation.
- Support social connections with friends and family.
- Meal Preparation and Nutrition
- Prepare nutritious meals tailored to dietary requirements as specified in the care plan.
- Encourage proper nutrition and hydration.
- Household Management
- Manage household tasks, including cleaning and laundry.
- Maintain a tidy and organized living space.
- Administration
- Documentation of completed tasks and reporting of changes in the client’s physical condition, mental capability or behavior
- Promptly report any change in client condition to the Care Manager
- Attends in-service as required by regulation.
Qualifications:
- Experience
- Minimum of two years of formal caregiving experience, specifically with older adults.
- CNA or HHA preferred
- Experience in Alzheimer’s and dementia care.
- Ability to handle complex situations.
- Skills
- Compassion, patience, and empathy.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Must have good command of the English language.
- Problem recognition and communication.
- Knowledge of safety procedures to prevent accidents.
- Hoyer lift transfer skills a plus
- Hospice experience a plus
- Catheter bag management a plus
- Physical Requirements
- Ability to provide hands-on care for extended periods (up to 8 hours).
- Physical strength and endurance
- Other Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must drive, have a California driver license and your own vehicle
- Must be willing to drive clients and run errands.
- Must be registered on the home care aide registry and must complete a criminal background check.
- Must be free from health problems that may be injurious to client, self and co-workers and must present appropriate evidence to substantiate this.
