Controller Job Description
Southeastern Laundry Equipment sales located in Marietta GA is hiring a Controller. The Controller will lead the periodic accounting function for the enterprise, including operations of the accounting department and the design of an organizational structure adequate for achieving the Line of Business (Divisions) goals and objectives. The Controller will provide leadership and direction to a team of several associates, will report to the Chief Financial Officer, and will have daily interaction with the Executive Team.
CORE FUNCTIONS
· Maintain a system of documented accounting policies and procedures in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
· Participate in the development of and support the company's financial and operational strategy.
· Monitor the financial performance of the company and lead the budgeting and forecasting process:
o Compile and analyze financial reporting packages.
o Prepare monthly and annual operating budgets.
· Develop and manage financial controls in accordance with the company's procedures.
· Communicate financial metrics to senior management via development of a standardized monthly reporting package and support of the quarterly board package.
· Provide leadership and support to the Senior Accounts and to the accounts receivable and accounts payable departments.
· Manage the preparation and review of key accounting calculations and related processes:
o Commissions
o Lease Accounting
o Accruals
o Revenue Recognition
· Create various analyses and modeling scenarios for multiple possible decisions to evaluate the best path/decision for each scenario.
· Engage with outside resources as needed to develop potential solutions for Client matters, manage third party audit and tax CPA processes.
REPORTING RESPONSIBILITIES
· Provide timely, accurate, and relevant management reporting information to the CFO, and Board on an on-demand basis.
· Create and track meeting notes for meetings that are in a rolling format to ensure follow-up on open items is timely without missing key deliverables.
· Produce timely, accurate, and complete financial statements – Balance Sheet, Income Statement, and Statement of Cash Flows.
· Work with operations management, create a system of key metrics which provide managerial insights to the executive team.
· Develop benchmarks against which to measure the performance of company operations.
· Calculate and publish financial and operating metrics and periodic management reports.
· Preparation of monthly and year-end percentage of completion reports and financial statements.
· Manage the production of the annual budget and forecasts.
· Calculate variances from the budget, report significant issues and provide variance explanations to management.
· Provide financial analyses as needed, for capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations.
· Organize account and entity documentation.
· Develop Financial Models as needed/requested.
TRANSACTIONAL MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES
· Set-up systems and process for accounting of enterprise.
· Management and oversight of the job cost accounting system.
· Ensure that accounts payable are paid in a timely manner and that all reasonable discounts are taken on accounts payable.
· Ensure that accounts receivable are collected promptly.
· Ensure that payroll is processed in a timely and accurate manner.
· Ensure that periodic bank reconciliations are completed.
· Ensure that required debt payments are made on a timely basis.
· Maintain the chart of accounts.
· Maintain an orderly accounting filing system.
· Maintain a system of internal controls over accounting transactions.
· Ensure all balance sheet accounts are reconciled monthly and properly approved.
SKILLS AND BACKGROUND
· Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting is required.
· CPA or CMA is a strong plus (if not, and you are interested in pursuing, we will support that effort).
· 5+ years solid accounting experience, ideally in a fast paced and changing environment.
· Previous experience as a Controller or Assistant Controller.
· Experience in a private equity firm, multifamily office or similar experience is a huge plus.
· Experience with directly managing and developing a staff of accounting professionals.
· Equally comfortable in the details while thinking strategically.
· Significant experience with accounting software and all Office 365 applications.
· Highly proficient with Excel (being an expert is a huge plus).
· Strong and proven written and oral communication skills.
· Adept at working effectively with remote teammates.
· Poise, composure, and the ability to multi-task effectively are required skills.
· Self-motivated and self-directed.
· Quick study, eager to learn. Wanting to assume greater responsibility and looking for a chance to learn from an experienced mentor.
